Riza Air: A Contemporary Lounge Chair Inspired by Antoni Gaudí

A Unique Design by Thelos Design Team

Contemporary design chair suitable for lounge areas of clubs, residences, and hotels. Made with an organic look structure complemented with a special grid on the back, the Riza chair is only realized with sustainable solid wood and natural varnishes. The design inspiration comes from the work of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and the legacy that the modernist architect left in Barcelona, ever inspired by nature elements and an organic look.

This design, named Riza Air, is a lounge chair that combines contemporary aesthetics with organic influences from the original works of the renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The Thelos Design Team, based in Barcelona, captured the creative dynamic of the city and its famous contemporary architecture to create this unique piece.

The Riza Air lounge chair stands out with its high visual impact and organic structure. It features a distinctive back design that adds a touch of exclusivity for its users. The chair is meticulously crafted using solid wood and specialized machinery to achieve its unique forms. The back is made up of slim solid wood pieces assembled with great delicacy.

With a matte oil water-based varnish finish, the Riza Air chair is available in a range of organic colors. Its dimensions are 650mm in width, 700mm in depth, and 750mm in height, making it suitable for various lounge areas.

The design of the Riza Air chair aims to create a visual impact on viewers and provide users with a special and enduring experience. It combines modern and striking aesthetics with warm organic shapes, striking a balance between these two aspects.

The Thelos Design Team embarked on this project in September 2012 during Barcelona Design Week. After discovering the potential synergy between their design focuses, they collaborated and finalized the chair's details by July 2013. The chair was designed and made in Barcelona, a city known for its rich architectural heritage.

Extensive research went into the development of the Riza Air chair. The team explored the limits of technology and natural forms, using wood as the primary material. They designed the chair's parts with extreme curvatures, limited by the possibilities of wooden planks, to minimize wastage and maintain a serene aesthetic. Sustainable materials were used throughout the production process, ensuring an environmentally friendly design.

The collaboration between the Thelos Design Team and new members from Barcelona was instrumental in overcoming the creative and technical challenges of this project. The result is a chair that embodies modern aesthetics with a warm touch of organic shapes, deserving of special places like a famous art piece in a museum.

The Riza Air chair received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2014. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Riza Air chair showcases strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
